Greetings Corey Families!
My name is LaRonda L. Ortega and I am elated to introduce myself as the new Principal of Arthur Corey Elementary School. It is an honor to have been selected by the Buena Park School District Board of Trustees and Superintendent, Dr. Ramon Miramontes to serve this fine community. I have learned that Corey Elementary is known for a school-wide commitment to instructional excellence and a strong dedication to addressing the needs of the whole child. I am excited to be a part of such a community of learners. I have served in public education for 17 years. I have been a teacher, Dean of Instruction, Assistant Principal, and Principal. I enjoy what I do and the most rewarding part is advocating for the students that I serve. I am excited about working with your children. I cannot wait to see their eagerness on the first day of school and watch each child grow and succeed this year.
Not only am I excited to be working with your children, I am excited about the work we will do together! I am a firm believer that the Home to School connection is a powerful tool that can enable children to reach their highest academic and social-emotional potential. By working collaboratively, we can accomplish many wonderful things to benefit the children of our community.
I would like to honor some of the many achievements that make Corey Elementary a special place. Did you know that Corey Elementary is a nationally recognized PBIS School? Our school is among the finest when it comes to teaching students how to navigate their day in a positive and reflective way. Did you know that Corey Elementary has several Cotsen Teaching Fellows on staff? Cotsen is a highly rigorous and competitive learning pathway for teachers and will provide for amazing instructional experiences for your children. Did you know that Corey is a Readers and Writers Workshop School? The teachers take pride in providing this type of targeted instruction to our students.
As you can see, Corey is a place where amazing things happen and students are always at the center of the excitement.
As we move into the 2019-2020 school year, I am pleased to announced that Corey Elementary is now a Visual and Performing Arts School (VAPA). To kick start our VAPA journey Corey has been selected as a Disney Musicals in Schools Grant recipient! Yes, you read that correctly! Disney! We are so excited about this partnership and the opportunities that musical production will bring our students. Corey is one of four schools in Orange County to receive this distinguished honor. Corey is also the recipient of the Pacific Symphony Class Act Grant which will bring the “magic of symphonic music” to our school. We cannot wait to immerse our students in classically composed music and stimulate their love of the performing arts.
Once again, I am thankful for the opportunity to serve you and your children this school year. I look forward to meeting you. Please stop by the main office and say hello.
Yours in Education, LaRonda L. Ortega
